The following are images of two recent, related bodies of work.

Each of the pieces in images 1-10 has three basic parts: a wooden armature consisting of a narrow, tapering base and a vertical, branching structure; translucent "color", either from cut and layered gels or from "skins" of acrylic paint; a two-sided, translucent mylar envelope suspended from and surrounding the inner structure. This envelope obscures and "mystifies" the inner structure, while still granting access through gaps at the edges and perforations in the surface. Also: In images 1 and 2 there is some air-brushed color (and in images 3 and 4, pencil marks) applied to the surface of the mylar.

In the following three images, the wooden structure of the previous pieces has been replaced by an armature made of bent electrical conduit, while the mylar envelope has been replaced by a semi-transparent/semi-reflective spandex skin

This last piece is the most recent.  As shown in the detail, the blue area is made up of layer upon layer of royal blue fringe attached to a spandex skin that is in turn stretched over a simple underlying conduit armature. The concrete form at the other end of the conduit was “cast” in a plastic bag.
